about the blind raccoon who invited himself to lunch on my patio? A true story, sure to make you thing. Last week, after filling bird feeders with sunflower seeds, a blind racoon with a bad leg showed up to feast on the seeds dropped on the patio. This was lunch time and it finally dawned on me that something was't quite right. A small object was thrown at him through the partially opened screen door. He showed no intention of leaving and kept forageing for seeds. Putting an action plan in place, a 5 gallon bucket was retrieved from the garage, then I tiptoed to the back yard certain the rascal was long gone. But, noooo, he was still feasting away. As I silently crept closer to the furry rat, my heart pounding at the forethought of being malled by a five pound noctural creature, I wondered what the heck to do if he was actually caught. Oh well, too late now. The bucket slid ever so quietly and effortlessly over him and a concrete planter was deposited on the top so he could not escape. A call to the York County Humane Society was the trick to have him hauled away, after finding out he was blind and had a broken leg. The moral of the story? Raccons who come to lunch are normally sick or injured, to alleviate this problem altogether here's a suggestion: Contact Animal Wildlife Control (a privately held company) to set traps for permanent removal of animals: 803-242-2685
